WWE Throws a Curveball: The End of Kelly Kelly and Drew McIntyre?

kelly kelly and drew mcintyre

Last week on SmackDown, the fans were treated to quite a lot of WWE diva Kelly Kelly. Of course, the focus on the pretty blonde was inevitable, as she was an integral part of the World Heavyweight Championship match in which Edge successfully retained his title against Dolph Ziggler. Kelly had made a run-in to assist the champ by pulling Acting General Manager Vickie Guerrero off the apron and beating her up after she got in Edge’s face and slapped him.

Why did Kelly get involved?

The question begs to be asked: Why exactly did Kelly Kelly get involved in the World title match? Is there something going on between her and Edge? Aside from a very brief backstage segment at the Royal Rumble a few years back, in which they exchanged insults, the two had never had any interaction.

Looking back to what transpired before the most current Royal Rumble, Kelly still had her eye on the Sinister Scotsman, Drew McIntyre. She sat at ringside as he competed in a match against JTG and even entered the ring after McIntyre won. Seemingly, she wanted to approach him and talk, but Drew ignored her, left the ring and headed toward the back. Kelly stared after him, looking crestfallen.

It seemed out of context, to say the least, to see the diva get involved in the World Championship match at the pay-per-view. However, on SmackDown days later, there was somewhat of an explanation.

Did Vickie Guerrero put a bug in Drew McIntyre’s ear?

During the opening segment on SmackDown last week, Vickie Guerrero called Kelly out to the ring, and angry words were exchanged. The feisty blonde accused the Official Consultant of the blue brand of interfering in her personal life. This must have put many question marks in fans’ heads, as there was never really any interaction between the two women before this time.

So, what exactly did Kelly mean? Was she referring to Drew McIntyre or Edge? If it was the latter, it might make a bit more sense, since the World champion is Vickie’s ex-husband, and each have been a thorn in the other’s side, especially as of late.

Kelly and Edge actually seem to have some chemistry, but what about McIntyre?

When all hell broke loose, with LayCool running out to attack Kelly, setting up for the mixed handicap tag team match (pitting Kelly and Edge against them and Ziggler) for the night’s main event, the World champion ran out to make the save. Edge played the part of white knight perfectly, but it would be nice to get a bit more of an explanation of the relationship between the two.

During a backstage segment between the champ and Kelly, Edge expressed some doubt in the match, as, after all, Kelly would be part of a World Championship bout.

In some ways, it was a bit of a surprise when Kelly brought up Drew McIntyre, comparing Edge to him because of his lack of faith in her ability to face off with LayCool. What was the reason behind the mention of the Chosen One’s name? Is it because Kelly is not truly over him, or is he really not quite out of the picture?

It seems there is more on the horizon between Kelly and both superstars

Kelly couldn’t possibly be finished with Edge yet, especially after Vickie Guerrero unfairly fired her after she won the World title match. The Rated R Superstar was irate and seemed seconds away from spearing his ex-wife after the action took place.

At the same time, it’s very plausible that Drew McIntyre might play a big part in the diva getting her job back. Since McIntyre is a heel, he would more easily be able to appeal to Guerrero. Vickie would more likely consider a request from him than from a babyface. That would be a good way of getting him back in the picture as well.

It will be interesting to see how these new developments in the life of Kelly Kelly take shape. Be sure to tune in to SmackDown to see what happens next!
