The well-known bodybuilder Melvin Anthony, born in Sacramento, California, on November 13, 1972, didn’t always aspire to be who he is today. His opinion of “muscle-bound athletes” was something like this: “These are people who must have been in prison because where else could they have gotten so big?” However, Melvin’s attitude toward bodybuilding changed drastically after meeting a “big guy” who didn’t look like a criminal at all. This man simply called Anthony over and said, “You’ve got good potential, find a gym, train, and make sure you eat right, and you’ll become a great athlete.” In a strange way, these words from a stranger changed Melvin Anthony’s entire life. By the age of eighteen, he already had a strong physique, far surpassing his peers. At San Bernardino Valley College, he was awarded a scholarship as an American football player.
An interesting fact is that Anthony has an education in the field of manicure and makeup artistry.
Many people mistakenly believe that athletes, especially bodybuilders, aren’t particularly intelligent, but Melvin disproves this notion. In 2005, the champion earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies due to his diligent approach to learning. Melvin is quite religious and believes in God.
Another interesting fact about this athlete is his 70 cm waist circumference. Perhaps this is why the champion was given the nickname “The Marvelous One.”
He made his bodybuilding competition debut at the age of 20 at the Fontana Ironman contest, where he earned an honorable 3rd place. In 1995, he won the NPC Palm Springs competition in the heavyweight category.
