Going into Night of Champions it felt like there might be some significant shifts in the landscape of the WWE and so it came to be true.

Randy Orton wins Six Pack Challenge and WWE Title.

In the weeks leading up to the Six Pack Challenge Randy Orton had all the momentum going into the match by laying waste to his opponents weeks after week. Orton took that momentum right into Night of Champions and emerged the WWE Champion.

As the match progressed Chris Jericho was eliminated first and it remains to be seen whether he will leave the WWE now. Edge soon followed Jericho back to the dressing room. Wade Barrett was proving unsuccessful in his attempts to eliminate the three opponents remaining so his band of renegade brothers, Nexus, stormed the ringside area to help their leader. It was their interference which allowed Barrett to put away Cena with his “Wasteland” finisher.

Despite this massive result for Barrett he was unable to enjoy it for long as Randy Orton destroyed him with an RKO to eliminate the rookie. That left Orton and then current WWE Champion Sheamus. In a re-match of their Summerslam encounter Orton was able to hit another RKO on Sheamus and claim his sixth WWE Championship. The Viper not sits at the top of the mountain on Raw once more.

Kane Defeats The Undertaker

As with Randy Orton, Kane went into his match with all the momentum. Despite a valiant effort from a still visibly injured Undertaker, Kane was able to exert his new found dominance over the Phenom by reversing a “Tombstone” pile driver and putting away his older brother.

Despite this first massive pin fall win on a pay per view over his brother, one suspects Kane is not done with The Undertaker. And The Undertaker will certainly not be done with Kane. They are likely to meet again at Hell in a Cell.

Daniel Bryan defeats The Miz to become United States Champion

After being tormented by his mentor on Season 1 NXT and attacked at Summerslam, Daniel Bryan was determined to exact some revenge on The Miz. What better way to do that than to take his precious United States title? And after a back and forth encounter that is exactly was Bryan did after forcing the submission with the devastating LeBell Lock.

What next for The Miz? He still has his guaranteed Money in the Bank title shot and will need to cash that in successfully to get near the main event picture again after this devastating loss.

Drew McIntyre and Dashing Cody Rhodes win the WWE Tag Titles

The Hart Dynasty had to defend their titles in a Tag Team Turmoil match. However they fell at the first hurdle losing to the The Uso’s. Where will The Hart Dynasty go from here as one of only two really established tag teams in WWE?

The Uso’s then faced the comedy team of Vladimir Koslov and Santino Marelli and defeated them with ease. However they were not so fortunate when they came up against the odd couple of Evan Bourne and Mark Henry.

This meant that Bourne and Henry faced the duo of Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes in the final and it was the Smackdown pairing who triumphed. This leaves McIntyre and Rhodes able to defend their belts on either Raw or Smackdown.

What this match showed is that the WWE is desperately short of established teams in the tag team ranks and had to throw together three randomly chosen combinations. They have even put the belts on one of those combinations. WWE needs to sort out its tag team division and fast.

Overall though a dramatic night in WWE with the main news being Randy Orton is once again WWE Champion.
