When Rob Van Dam was viciously attacked by Abyss in order to send a message that “They” were coming to TNA, the TNA hierarchy had to make a decision. It is still unclear as to who actually runs TNA and books the matches as the promotion is a confusing mess the majority of the time, however whether it be Eric Bischoff, Dixie Carter of Hulk Hogan it was decided RVD would be stripped on the title as his injuries prevented him from defending it.
TNA Title Tournament Held
As a result it was decided a tournament would be held to crown a new TNA Champion with the final being booked as the main event at Bound For Glory. When this tournament came down to the last four Mr Anderson was able to get past The Pope and make it through to the final. However the other semi final proved much more problematic.
After waging two lengthy battles Kurt Angle and Jeff Hardy could not be separated. As a result they were both awarded a place in a Three Way Dance for the vacant title. But who will emerge victorious?
Will Mr Anderson become TNA World Champion?
Mr Anderson is perhaps the outside bet of the three competitors. He never managed to live up to his huge potential in the WWE after countless pushes that were due to result in him becoming a main event player.
His time in TNA has been steady if unspectacular but until he really steps it up a gear one has to wonder what would be gained from Anderson being champion for TNA as a company. Has he the star power to carry TNA forward? The jury is out on that one.
Will Jeff Hardy become TNA World Champion?
If he hadn’t had a court case hanging over him it may well be the case that Jeff Hardy would have been TNA Champion by now. Having said that he is not in the same condition that we was in WWE and every time he has been given the brass ring in his career before his personal demons have caused him to self destruct. Would Jeff Hardy be a liability as TNA Champion? Again the jury is sceptical.
Will Kurt Angle become the TNA World Champion?
Angle is not only the safest pair of hands in the company to be a World Champion with his unbelievable pedigree, but also arguably the best wrestler in the world for the past six years. Kurt Angle is almost wasted in TNA at times at it would be mouth watering to see him back in the WWE for one final run. He has said if he does not win the title he will retire. The vast majority of wrestling fans will therefore be rooting for him to once again sit atop the mountain.
If TNA is serious about ever trying to put some pressure of the WWE they need Kurt Angle as their figurehead. There is no one else in that company who even comes close to his star power and ability to create a great match out of any situation. If his body holds up Kurt Angle must win the TNA World Title at Bound For Glory.
